My gas has been shut off!

I can't believe it,it happened the gas is off. As I was trying to make spaghetti for the kids! now we are hungry for a hot meal. The gas company wanted $ 953.98 to avoid it....there was no way I could come up with it. We are flat broke. Churches are strict and I just can't get the help needed. Now that the gas is cut off that means I need $1,469.02 which is due by tuesday july 7th,plus reconnection charge. I am so scared we will end up homeless.

 in response to coolasilk...   my gas was recently given the axe and I have yet to take a cold shower. It has dropped from the 70's to lower 60's in the day and low 40's and upper 30's at night. Going to be a looooooooooong winter here. I usuallly shower at the neighbors she's been a God-send.

Mine literly just got shut off 20 mins ago..they want 750 bucks. Just found out that HEAP closed may 13th for us. Yay. No knock on the doo, nothing. She snuck up in my yard like a ninja n turned it off. I went to check the stove and nothing. I have a 1 yr old too so this is going to be a shitty summer! Lots of showers at grammas and boiling water on electric burners :( its either rent electric food diapers or gas. We don't even havecellphone service on I'm on a cellphone using my neighbors wifi lol my car is sitting in the driveway with a lapsed insurance and suspended registration that can't even be renewed until september...ugh..fun times. YaY for NYS!

 in response to cold feet...   You should realize that the gas companies have a boss to answer to too and if you feel that you are being treated unjustly then you can always file a complaint. I have seen complaints files and people being able to get solutions to their gas-related problems. Also too, if your problems are related to shut-offs then you should know that there are programs that may be able to help you - especially if you are considered low-incomed. To find out about these programs you should visit your local / nearest social services agency or welfare office.

I can understand you feeling frustrated but that is EXACTLY the time when you should DO something about it.

The gas companys are going to be busy this year cutting off peoples gas. How these greedy MF's sleep at night is beyond belief. I hope some day they feel the pain and embarasment that we all feel. I HATE THE GAS COMPANY AND HOPE THAT ANYONE WHO WORKS FOR THEM HAS A TERRIBLE HOLIDAY SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a Disabled American Citizan I paid the Gas Co Southern California $596.63 On October 1 2010 and I got three statements in 3 days, Well today is Thanksgiving Day and guess what! MY GAS WAS TURNED OFF AGAIN! This utility needs to be monitered BIG TIME

Cold showers depending on one's health can be hard on the body. I have had to take them and my sister poured cold water one time when my mom was in her 60's while she was in the tub. It was too much of a shock to her nervous system. I could have wrung my sister's neck as mom had gotten over pneumonia. My mom was stunned by my sister's stupid idea and cold water hitting here and I let my sister have it. I have poured ice cold water down my back when it was hot and it about stopped my heart. That I never did again.

One thing you don't want to do as my uncle who went fishing fell out of the boat was cold came home no one was in the house took a warm shower to warm up and died of a heart attack. It was too much of an extreme for his body to handle. To call 911 to see what to do and warm up gradually would have been better than hitting a warm shower or hot shower. It has been decades since he passed. 

You can live without gas during the summer by what you suggested for cooking and can heat warm water for bird baths as mom us to call them.

Just calm down. I and my mom have been without gas since April! It's a mind game. Cold showers are only uncomfortable at the beginning but they do the body good and you get used to them. Buy an electric skillet and a microwave cookbook and you are well on your way to finding out that @ least during the warmer months, you CAN make it w/out gas.

Hi everyone on Aidpage,

I am hanging out here today about to log out soon. So much on my mind,so much to do,so much going on. I hold on to every bit of sanity cause sanity is all I have.

I wanted to share with you an update to my previous post about the gas being shut off. I am now in more trouble. When I made that statement I'm scared we'll end up homeless I was for real. Due to my gas being disconnected now my housing voucher is being threatened to be TERMINATED.

I am in need of real help If I don't get the gas back on then we will be out on the street.
